Daily Windows for the week of April 9-15, 2017

SUNDAY

What would help you find rest and value in the LORD?

Morning and Midday
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.  [Hebrews 11:1-3, NIV]

Evening
God is God. Because he is God, He is worthy of my trust and obedience. I will find rest nowhere but in His holy will that is unspeakably beyond my largest notions of what he is up to.  [Elisabeth Elliot]

MONDAY

What do you want to surrender today – and what do you want to ask for in exchange?

Morning and Midday
Calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat; I am. Don’t run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I’ll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to saving yourself, your true self. What good would it do to get everything you want and lose you, the real you? What could you ever trade your soul for?  [Mark 8:37, MSG]

Evening
You become stronger only when you become weaker. When you surrender your will to God, you discover the resources to do what God requires.  [Erwin Lutzer]

TUESDAY

What would help you be more aware of God’s presence today?

Morning and Midday
Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice! Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually! Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles and the judgments he uttered.  [1 Chronicles 16:10-12, ESV]

Evening
Aloneness can lead to loneliness. God’s preventative for loneliness is intimacy – meaningful, open, sharing relationships with one another. In Christ we have the capacity for the fulfilling sense of belonging which comes from intimate fellowship with God and with other believers.  [Neil T. Anderson]

WEDNESDAY

What reminds you of all the reasons you have to be grateful?

Morning and Midday
The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.  [Psalm 145:8-9, NIV]

Evening
I thank Thee first because I was never robbed before; second, because although they took my purse they did not take my life; third, although they took my all, it was not much; and fourth, because it was I who was robbed and not I who robbed.  [Matthew Henry]

THURSDAY

What is the next step of commitment and action for you to join what God is doing in the world?

Morning and Midday
Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed. Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.  [Hebrews, 12:12-14, ESV]

Evening
Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.  [Desmond Tutu]

FRIDAY

What nagging and persistent habits or patterns do you need to confess?

Morning and Midday
The gossip of bad people gets them in trouble; the conversation of good people keeps them out of it.  [Proverbs 12:13, MSG]

Evening
Jesus said, “Any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple” (Luke 14:33). We must honestly face the question, “Am I willing to give up a certain practice or habit that is keeping me from holiness?” It is at this point of commitment that most of us fail. We prefer to dally with sin, to try to play with it a little without getting too deeply involved.  [Jerry Bridges]

SATURDAY

What areas of need are difficult for you to admit?

Morning and Midday
Right now you have plenty and can help those who are in need. Later, they will have plenty and can share with you when you need it. In this way, things will be equal. As the Scriptures say,

“Those who gathered a lot had nothing left over, and those who gathered only a little had enough.”  [2 Corinthians 8:14-15, NLT]

Evening
For those who feel their lives are a grave disappointment to God, it requires enormous trust and reckless, raging confidence to accept that the love of Jesus Christ knows no shadow of alteration or change. When Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy burdened,” He assumed we would grow weary, discouraged, and disheartened along the way. These words are a touching testimony to the genuine humanness of Jesus. He had no romantic notion of the cost of discipleship. He knew that following Him was as unsentimental as duty, as demanding as love.  [Brennan Manning]
