What would help you to find rest and value in the LORD?

Morning and Midday

Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;  for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. [Psalm 95:17]

Why is it so important that you are with God and God alone on the mountain top? It’s important because it’s the place in which you can listen to the voice of the One who calls you the beloved. To pray is to listen to the One who calls you “my beloved daughter,” “my beloved son,” “my beloved child.” To pray is to let that voice speak to the centre of your being, to your guts, and let that voice resound in your whole being. [Henri Nouwen]

What do you want to surrender today – and what do you want to ask for in exchange?

Morning and Midday

The Spirit of the Lord and King is on me.
The Lord has anointed me to tell the good news to poor people.
He has sent me to comfort those whose hearts have been broken.
He has sent me to announce freedom for those who have been captured.
He wants me to set prisoners free from their dark prisons.
He has sent me to announce the year when he will set his people free.
He wants me to announce the day when he will pay his enemies back.
Our God has sent me to comfort all those who are sad.
He wants me to help those in Zion who are filled with sorrow.
I will put beautiful crowns on their heads in place of ashes.
I will anoint them with oil to give them gladness instead of sorrow.
I will give them a spirit of praise in place of a spirit of sadness.
They will be like oak trees that are strong and straight.
The Lord himself will plant them in the land.
That will show how glorious he is.
(Isaiah 61:1-3 New International Reader’s version)

He is intangible and invisible. But His work is more powerful than the most ferocious wind. The Spirit brings order out of chaos and beauty out of ugliness. He can transform a sin-blistered man into a paragon of virtue.the Spirit changes people. The Author of life is also the Transformer of life. [R.C. Sproul]

What would help you be more aware of God’s presence today?

Morning and Midday

O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help. (Psalm 86:5 New Living Translation)

Delayed answers to prayers are not refusals. Many prayers are received and recorded, yet underneath are the words “my time has not yet come.” God has a fixed time and an ordained purpose, and He who controls the limits of our lives also determines the time of our deliverance. (L.B. Cowman, Streams in the Desert)

What reminds you of all the reasons you have to be grateful?

Morning and Midday

Lord your love reaches to the heavens, Your loyalty to the skies. Your goodness is as high as the mountains. Your justice is as deep as the great ocean. Lord, you protect both people and and animals. God, your love is so precious! You protect people in the shadow of your wings. [Psalm 36:5-7]

God loved us before he made us; and his love has never diminished and never shall. [Julian of Norwich]

What is the next step of commitment and action for you to join what God is doing in the world?

Morning and Midday

Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. [Psalm 86:11]

My Father, teach us not only thy will, but how to do it. Teach us the best way of doing the best thing, lest we spoil the end by unworthy means. [J.H. Jowett]

What nagging and persistent habits or patterns do you need to confess?

Morning and Midday

My dear brothers and sisters, pay attention to what I say. Everyone should be quick to listen. But they should be slow to speak. They should be slow to get angry. A man’s anger doesn’t produce the kind of life God wants. (James 1:19, 20 New International Reader’s Version)

This year, or this month, or, more likely, this very day, we have failed to practice ourselves the kind of behavior we expect from other people. (C.S. Lewis)

What areas of need are difficult for you to admit?

Morning and Midday

God has given them a desire to know the future. He does everything just right and on time, but people can never completely understand what He is doing. [Ecclesiastes 3:11, New Century Version]

When ours are interrupted His are not. His plans are proceeding exactly as scheduled, moving us always (including those minutes, or hours, or years which seem most useless or wasted or unendurable) “toward the goal of true maturity” (Romans 12:2).[Elisabeth Elliot]
