Daily Windows for the week of Aug. 6-12, 2017

SUNDAY

What would help you find rest and value in the LORD?

Morning and Midday
God bless you and keep you,  God smile on you and gift you,
God look you full in the face and make you prosper. [Numbers 6:24-26, The Message]

Evening
More prayer, more exercise of faith, more patient waiting, and the result will be blessing, abundant blessing. Thus I have found it many hundreds of times, and therefore I continually say to myself, “Hope thou in God.” [George Muller]

MONDAY

What do you want to surrender today – and what do you want to ask for in exchange?

Morning and Midday
If you need wisdom — if you want to know what God wants you to do — ask him, and he will gladly tell you. He will not resent your asking. But when you ask him, be sure that you really expect him to answer, for a doubtful mind is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.  [James 1:5-6, New Living Translation]

Evening
If you go to Him to be guided, He will guide you, but He will not comfort your distrust or half-trust of Him by showing you the chart of all His purposes concerning you. He will show you only into a way where, if you go cheerfully and trustfully forward, He will show you on still farther. [Horace Bushnell]

TUESDAY

What would help you be more aware of God’s presence today?

Morning and Midday
Surrender yourself to the LORD, and wait patiently for him. Do not be preoccupied with [an evildoer] who succeeds in his way when he carries out his schemes. [Psalm 27:7, God’s Word Translation]

Evening
Oh, how much energy is wasted! How much time is lost by not letting down the wings of our spirit and getting very quiet before Him! Oh, the calm, the rest, the peace which come as we wait in His presence until we hear from Him! [Streams in the Desert]

WEDNESDAY

What reminds you of all the reasons you have to be grateful?

Morning and Midday
Now before the year of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On, bore to him. Joseph named the firstborn Manasseh, “for” he said, “God has made me forget all my trouble and all my Father’s household.” He named the second Ephriam, “For” he said “God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.” [Genesis 41:50-52]

Evening
Perchance some one of God’s chastened children is even now saying, “O God, it is raining hard for me tonight.” … It isn’t raining afflictions for you. It is raining tenderness, love, compassion, patience, and a thousand other flowers and fruits of the blessed Spirit, which are bringing into your life such a spiritual enrichment as all the fullness of worldly property and ease was never able to beget in your innermost soul. [J.M. McC]

THURSDAY

What is the next step of commitment and action for you to join what God is doing in the world?

Morning and Midday
Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. [Philippians 2:3, The Message]

Evening
What am I to do? I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good work, therefore, any kindness, or any service I can render to any soul of man or animal, let me do it now. Let me not neglect or defer it, for I shall not pass this way again. [Quaker saying]

FRIDAY

What nagging and persistent habits or patterns do you need to confess?

Morning and Midday
Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. [John 15:4]

Evening
Anyone who tries self-sufficiency in the spiritual life soon falls prey to illusion. [Anonymous]

SATURDAY

What areas of need are difficult for you to admit?

Morning and Midday
But forget all that — it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do a brand-new thing. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness for my people to come home. I will create rivers for them in the desert! [Isaiah 43:18-19, New Living Translation]

Evening
We become discouraged and so timid that a little obstacle depresses and frightens us, and we are tempted to walk around it, and not face it: to take the easier way. … Go right ahead and leave no Jericho behind you unconquered and no place where Satan can say that he was too much for you. [A.B. Simpson]
