What would help you find rest and value in the LORD?

Morning and Midday
But the LORD longs to show you his favor. He wants to give you his tender love. The LORD is a God who is always fair. Blessed are all those who wait for him to act! [Isaiah 30:18, New International Reader’s Version]

It is a glorious thing to get to know God in a new way in the inner chamber. It is something still greater and more glorious to know God as the all-sufficient One and to wait on His Spirit to open our hearts and minds wide to receive the great things, the new things which He really longs to bestow on those who wait for Him. [Andrew Murray]

What do you want to surrender today – and what do you want to ask for in exchange?

Morning and Midday
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. [Ephesians 1:17-19]

…God descends to re-ascend. He comes down; down from the heights of absolute being into time and space, down into humanity … down to the very roots and sea-bed of the Nature He has created. But He goes down to come up again and bring the ruined world up with Him. One has the picture of a strong man stooping lower and lower to get himself underneath some great complicated burden. He must stoop in order to lift, he must almost disappear under the load before he incredibly straightens his back and marches off with the whole mass swaying on his shoulders.

[C.S. Lewis]

What would help you be more aware of God’s presence today?

Morning and Midday
For a child has been born — for us! The gift of a son — for us! He’ll take over the running of the world. His names will be: Amazing Counselor, Strong God, Eternal Father, Prince of Wholeness. [Isaiah 9:6]

May you know Him as…
The God who sings over you and with you in Joy
The God who rejoices over you and with you.
The God whose mountains and hills break forth before you into singing;
and all the trees of His fields clap their hands
The God who walks beside you, delighting with you as He directs your every step.
May you know Him as…
The God who compassionately comforts you as a Father in all your troubles
The God who strengthens your inner man by His Spirit that is always with you.
The God who is your strength, your refuge and a very evident and present help.
The God who is your shield and protection when you are under attack.
The ever present God who is eternally your peace.

For unto us a child is born, Unto us a son is given:
And the government shall be upon his shoulder:
And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor,
The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isa 9:6

And that child grew up…
To become….
our Saviour.
Our Redeemer
Our Portion
Our Strong Tower
Our Friend.
[Katherine Walden ]

What reminds you of all the reasons you have to be grateful?

Morning and Midday
Thanks be to God for his unspeakable Gift— indescribable, inestimable, incomparable inexpressible – precious beyond words. [Lois Lebar]

To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy-to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen. [Jude 24-25]

What is the next step of commitment and action for you to join what God is doing in the world?

Morning and Midday
God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us to do good works, which God planned in advance for us to live our lives doing. [Ephesians 2:10, New Century Version]

We do not very often come across opportunities for exercising strength, magnanimity, or magnificence; but gentleness, temperance, modesty, and humility, are graces which ought to color everything we do. There may be virtues of a more exalted mold, but… these are the most continually called for in daily life. [Francis de Sales]

What nagging and persistent habits or patterns do you need to confess?

Morning and Midday
Surely You desire integrity in the inner self, and You teach me wisdom deep within. [Psalm 51:9, Holman Christian Standard]

I need Thee, O Lord, for a curb on my tongue; when I am tempted to making carping criticisms and cruel judgements, keep me from speaking barbed words that hurt, and in which I find perverted satisfaction. Keep me from unkind words and from unkind silences. Restrain my judgements. Make my criticisms kind, generous, and constructive. Make me sweet inside, that I may be gentle with other people, gentle in the things I say, kind in what I do. Create in me that warmth of mercy that shall enable others to find Thy strength for their weakness, Thy peace for their strife, Thy joy for their sorrow, Thy love for their hatred, Thy compassion for their illness. In thine own strong name, I pray. Amen. [Peter Marshall]

What areas of need are difficult for you to admit?

Morning and Midday
And then he told me, My grace is enough; it’s all you need. My strength comes into its own in your weakness. Once I heard that, I was glad to let it happen. I quit focusing on the handicap and began appreciating the gift. It was a case of Christ’s strength moving in on my weakness. [2 Corinthians 12:9, The Message]

Listen, my friend! Your helplessness is your best prayer. It calls from your heart to the heart of God with greater effect than all your uttered pleas. He hears it from the very moment that you are seized with helplessness, and He becomes actively engaged at once in hearing and answering the prayer of your helplessness. [Ole Kristian O. Hallesby]
