Daily Windows for the week of Dec. 18-24

SUNDAY

What would help you find rest and value in the LORD?

Morning and Midday
For he has not ignored or belittled the suffering of the needy.

He has not turned his back on them,

but has listened to their cries for help. [Psalm 22:24 New Living Translation]

Evening
How comforting it is to know the Bigness of God in the times of our deepest pain. What a blessed salve it is to our broken and wounded hearts to know that the Creator of the universe, he who holds all the stars in his hand, carries us in his heart. He knows us by name, he is intimately acquainted with every thought, he hears every heart cry and understands every motive of our heart and he loves us still. [Katherine Walden]

MONDAY

What do you want to surrender today – and what do you want to ask for in exchange?

Morning and Midday
So brothers and sisters, since God has shown us great mercy, I beg you to offer your lives as a living sacrifice to him. Your offering must be only for God and pleasing to him, which is the spiritual way for you to worship. Do not be shaped by this world; instead be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you; you will know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect. [Romans 12:1, 2 New Century Version]

Evening
A providence is shaping our ends; a plan is developing our lives; a supreme and loving Being is making all things work together for good. In the sequel of our life’s story we shall see that there was a meaning and necessity in all the previous incidents, save those which were the result of our own folly and sin, and that even these have been made to contribute to the final result. Trust Him child of God He is leading you by a right way to the celestial City of Habitation; and as from the terrace of eternity you review the path by which you came from the morning-land of childhood, you will confess that He hath done all things well. [F.B. Meyer]

TUESDAY

What would help you be more aware of God’s presence today?

Morning and Midday
But Moses answered, “Don’t be afraid! Stand still and you will see the Lord save you today. You will never see these Egyptians again after today. You only need to remain calm; the Lord will fight for you.” [Exodus 14:13, 14]

Evening
Lord, teach me to listen. The times are noisy and my ears are weary with the thousand raucous sounds which continuously assault them. Give me the spirit of the boy Samuel when he said to Thee, “Speak, for thy servant heareth.” Let me hear Thee speaking in my heart. Let me get used to the sound of Thy voice, that its tones may be familiar when the sounds of earth die away and the only sound will be the music of Thy speaking voice. Amen. [A.W. Tozer]

WEDNESDAY

What reminds you of all the reasons you have to be grateful?

Morning and Midday
My heart is confident in you, O God; no wonder I can sing your praises! Wake up, my soul! Wake up, O harp and lyre! I will waken the dawn with my song. I will thank you, Lord, in front of all the people. I will sing your praises among the nations. For your unfailing love is as high as the heavens. Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens. May your glory shine over all the earth.  [Psalm 57:7-11, New Living Translation]

Evening
….. I arise today

Through God’s strength to pilot me;

God’s might to uphold me,

God’s wisdom to guide me,

God’s eye to look before me,

God’s ear to hear me,

God’s word to speak for me,

God’s hand to guard me,

God’s way to lie before me,

God’s shield to protect me,

God’s hosts to save me

From snares of the devil,

From temptations of vices,

From every one who desires me ill,

Afar and anear,

Alone or in a multitude. [Patrick of Ireland]

THURSDAY

What is the next step of commitment and action for you to join what God is doing in the world?

Morning and Midday
He puts poor people on their feet again; he rekindles burned-out lives with fresh hope, Restoring dignity and respect to their lives – a place in the sun! For the very structures of earth are God’s; he has laid out his operations on a firm foundation. [1 Samuel 2:8, The Message]

Evening
Jesus, the Light of the World, as we celebrate your birth… may we begin to see the world in the light of understanding you give us. As you chose the lowly, the outcasts, and the poor to receive the greatest news the world had ever known, so may we worship you in meekness of heart. May we also remember our brothers and sisters less fortunate than ourselves in this season of giving. Amen.  [Karen L. Oberst]

FRIDAY

What nagging and persistent habits or patterns do you need to confess?

Morning and Midday
Test me, Lord, and try me; examine my heart and mind. For Your faithful love is before my eyes, and I live by Your truth. [Psalm 26:2-3, Holman Christian Standard]

Evening
O Lord our God, Who has called us to serve You in the midst of the world’s affairs, When we stumble, hold us; when we fall, lift us up. When we are hard pressed with evil, deliver us. When we turn from what is good, turn us back and bring us at last to Your glory. [Alcuin of York]

SATURDAY

What areas of need are difficult for you to admit?

Morning and Midday
How terrible it will be for anyone who argues with his Maker! He is like a broken piece of pottery lying on the ground. Does clay say to a potter, “What are you making?” Does a pot say, “You don’t have any skill”? [Isaiah 45:9, New International Reader’s Version]

Evening
Trying to do the Lord’s work in your own strength is the most confusing, exhausting, and tedious of all work. But when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you. [Corrie Ten Boom]
