Daily Windows for the week of Jan 15-21

SUNDAY

What would help you find rest and value in the LORD?

Morning and Midday
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.  [1 Thessalonians 5:23-24]

Evening
In the name of Jesus Christ, who was never in a hurry, we pray, O God, that You will slow us down, for we know that we live too fast. With all of eternity before us, make us take time to live—time to get acquainted with You, time to enjoy Your blessings, and time to each other. [Peter Marshall]

MONDAY

What do you want to surrender today – and what do you want to ask for in exchange?

Morning and Midday
O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.  [Psalm 63:1]

Evening
O most blessed grace, which makest the poor in spirit, rich in virtues; and makest the rich in many goods, humble in heart! Come thou, descend upon me, refresh me early with thy mercy and thy consolation, that my soul may not faint for weariness and dryness of spirit. I beseech thee, O Lord, that I may find grace in thy sight, for thy grace is sufficient for me, though the things which nature desires be wanting.  [Thomas à Kempis]

TUESDAY

What would help you be more aware of God’s presence today?

Morning and Midday
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters. [Psalm 23: 2, Today’s New International Version]

Evening
We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature—trees, flowers, grass—grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence… We need silence to be able to touch souls.  [Mother Theresa]

WEDNESDAY

What reminds you of all the reasons you have to be grateful?

Morning and Midday
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. [Psalm 103:2-5]

Evening
Whatever troubles are weighing you down are not chains. They are featherweight when compared to the glory yet to come. With a sweep of a prayer and the praise of a child’s heart, God can strip away any cobweb. [Joni Eareckson Tada]

THURSDAY

What is the next step of commitment and action for you to join what God is doing in the world?

Morning and Midday
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. [Ephesians 4: 2

Evening
Quite honestly, most people are quick to “write someone off.” But our God is a God of the second chance. Learn from One who is patient with you, and you’ll learn to be patient with others.  [Woodrow Kroll]

FRIDAY

What nagging and persistent habits or patterns do you need to confess?

Morning and Midday
I know, O LORD, that a man’s life is not his own; it is not for man to direct his steps. [Jeremiah 10:23]

Evening
One of the most arduous spritual tasks is that of giving up control and allowing the Spirit of God to lead our lives.  [Henri Nouwen]

SATURDAY

What areas of need are difficult for you to admit?

Morning and Midday
So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.  [2 Corinthians 4:16-18, The Message]

Evening
In the greatest difficulties, in the heaviest trials, in the deepest poverty and necessities, He has never failed me; but because I was enabled by His grace to trust Him He has always appeared for my help. I delight in speaking well of His name.  [George Muller]
